Warning: Glass half empty
1. I want to plan something really special for Fathers Day for Jon. He is the hardest working man in the world. Really. I don't even know when he's had a day off. And it's hard work that he's doing, too. On his feet all day. People bleeding and dying. He needs some levity. Some beer and chicken wings. Maybe I'll even shave my legs for him!
2. Wood floats. I am a craft genius, and I have discovered that wood floats. I've been racking my to come up with a boat that actually can go in the bathtub or a pool. And then, as I was racking, I glanced over at the boats I made last summer. Remember these?
So I filled up the sink and put one in the water. And I discovered what every civilization prior to me has already known. Wood floats. I are a freaking genius.
3. I am grouchy. I have worked to cultivate a facade of silly chippery chatter here on my blog, and today, or really for the last month, I'm fighting to keep up the front. I'll admit it. I'm freaking grouchy. It's not that I'm trying to fake you all out into thinking I'm all domestic bliss, it's just that I figure that you (and Flava Flav) got problems of your own so why do you want to hear my annoying whines, especially if you have much bigger problems that mine in which case you'll just read my whines and think "Geez, shut up, whiner" so I tend to keep my grouchy days (or weeks) to myself. But I'm in a let it all hang out mood today. I am grouchy.
4. The goldfinches are flying all over the place outside. I love these little birds.
Sorry about the terrible photo quality. I took this pic through my front window and don't have a zoom lense. There were about 6 of them flying around the tree that day. So cute. And I am still grouchy.
OH JESUS a STUPID loud motorcycle just drove past the house and woke up Maggie who is also EXTREMELY grouchy. Thanks, motorcycle. Nice.
See? See? I am miserable to be around today. Please promise that you will still be my internet friends. Pleeeease!

This is so ironic. I just got through talking to a friend two seconds ago who is so grouchy that her boyfriend said she needed a garbage can. What??? Then he said he'd call her Oscar (from Sesame Street.) And she is still my friend even though all she has been doing for the past week is GROUCH! So, I will still hang with you, too.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I have been grouchy for at least a month, too... it's so wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I LOVE those BOATS!!!
We have a million goldfinches too. We lured them in with thistle seeds...but now we just give them whatever's cheapest. :) I just love how they fly - it's like they propel themselves thru the air and then fall forward!
ReplyDeleteI was feeling grouchy a couple of weeks ago, but I figured out that it was really grief and stress manifesting itself as anger. That helped. So...maybe something else is going on with you, that is just being exhibited as grouchiness? ...I also got back on my Prozac...that may have helped too. :)
You could be Ms. Grouchie O'Grumpleton, grumpiest girl in Grouseville and it would STILL be a pleasure to drop by here. x
ReplyDeleteOh how fantastic...you're human!!!! Of course I love your blog even more now! Thanks for sharing - your boats are amazing! xo
ReplyDeleteI love your boats, you craftingfool! I hope you put up the pattern for them in your shop, I'd totally go for one. Or sailboat kits...that would be an awesome buy!
ReplyDeletepromise! love the boats too.....
ReplyDeleteI promise to be a grouch next week, and I can come over and we can have a grouch-fest, until Maggie and Sara go running up and down the hall screaming, then we'll be laughing :)
ReplyDeleteMiz Matsutake - I like you funny and I like you grouchy. Hang in there. I've never met a mother of human children who wasn't grouchy at some point(s). Or who didn't have a tension headache on the weekends. I'd offer you my nutella jar but for the fact that I er... don't share my nutella with anyone, not even my own kids. So Big Hug for the grouchiness and can I stamp on your toe real hard because I am so freaking jealous that your Maggie still takes naps?

ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah, still friends, although I'm feeling pretty darn grouchy over here. Will you still be my internet buddy?
ReplyDeleteAnd the boats are pretty darned cute. I think I need them for my bathtub right NOW.
You don't sound very grouchy, little miss look-at-the-cute-birdies-and-toy-boats! I suggest chocolate.
ReplyDeletei second the chocolate suggestion as well as some klonopin prescribed by your husband and a round of practicing your real housewives of new jersey accent all afternoon. i'll get you started, "I'm going to walk the dwoag and get some cwoaffee around the cwoarna".
ReplyDeleteYou're funny, and clever, grouchiness and all :)
ReplyDeleteyou crack me up, even when you're grouchy! love the boats. You ARE a genius.
ReplyDeleteSound to me like you need to sit outside with hubby and a glass of wine. Admire the birds together. Take a few deep breaths. Enjoy the process. See the innocence in the pain in the ass actions of others. But definately the wine! Hope you feel better soon! Oh and the grouchy problem thing-it isn't a contest. You are allowed to feel grumpy whenever you want regardless of the severity of the problems of others. Doesn't change a thing.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys. Thank you. I mean it.
ReplyDeleteWell, this just cracks me up! :) The glass half empty warning was just the beginning ... but I *totally* know what you mean about the loud motorcycles (urgh!) ... I hope fathers day was happy for Jon (I'm sure it was - heck, at least you actually put some thought into the day ... better than waiting until 11pm the night before hand - that doesn't work out so well...) ... and those little boats are absolutely adorable!! I LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love the whining ... it's not like it's every day. :) And I really loathe hearing *only* about the "fabulousness" of someone's life. (Please. Be real people. I LOVE a positive attitude, but it really is okay to let the rest of us know it's not always rainbows and sunshine.) I find I gradually stop checking back in on those kinds of blogs. I like the real deal better. And your blog is the real deal, sister. I love it. Thanks for sharing your life and creativity with the rest of us. :)
