Green reminds me of grass...when this little guy should be walking through winter snow. Maybe an icy blue?
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I happen to like the peppermint :) I like Sadie's idea of green grass or icy blue snow. I was also thinking that red, like the peppermint, would look good!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually icy blue. I guess the photo is shifted a little toward the yellowish end of the tint spectrum. Yeah, it looks really green in that pic doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt does look totally green in the pick. Hint'o'mint kinda green. The whole thing is just so cute, but it's making me want a Babycham at 8.40am! ;) Is the fawn all wire and papiermache?
ReplyDeleteI like! Love the peppermint - do you have a striped string? A navy blue string?
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest a light blue base - but it sounds like it already is. Maybe the axels should be red? Or Navy?

the blue is lovely- how about red wheels to compliment the super cute peppermint pull?
ReplyDeleteOne vote for an icy blue.
ReplyDeleteerin.
love it for reals! i think red wheels would be cute too.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pics on the side, I thought a natural wood base like the elephant and donkey have might look good. The dark hooves make a natural break in the light colors. I like the mint and cannot think of anything else that might be better. Maybe a plain round piece in the blue of the ribbon around the neck if you really want something else???
ReplyDeletePaint the wheels like peppermints, to match the pull!
ReplyDelete:oD It's adorable!
Thanks, guys! I think the deer itself should be polka dotted.
ReplyDeleteLove the peppermint pull. Agree that the base looks too green (at least in pic). My first thought when looking at it was the base would look cute if it matched the color of the scarf.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your work and wish I had your skills!
Love the peppermint! I agree - I think the base should be a bit more bold, or if it's pastel, more winter-y! Love your blog! xo
ReplyDeleteLove the peppermint, and if it's icy blue then that is wonderful. My monitor is making it look sage-y green. I love his blue necklace. He's not afraid to carry a deer manbag, is he?
ReplyDeleteI think some sort of robin's egg blue or even turquoise base would really offset the deer and would be a bit less traditional and give it a bit of pop. I agree that red would look good too. I think the peppermint in and of itself is cute, but makes it a little too "sweet" (this from the woman whose plushies probably fall universally in the "cute" catergory). I do ADORE the fawn and the ribbon around its neck. Its got that vintage look all your stuff has an air of...which I love.
ReplyDeleteand what about blue, like the neckclace (sorry I don't know the name in english).
ReplyDeleteHugs from Spain :)
I like the peppermint, maybe a red and white pull string or matching wheels?
ReplyDeleteThe base doesn't look green enough to be grass, I like the idea of ice-blue or bright fresh green grass colour.
very cute though!
I LOVE the peppermint! I have to say that I think a red base would look fantastique - but red IS my favourite & my best.... & peppermint wheels to match...!
ReplyDeleteI love the peppermint at the end of the string. The base though I'd imagine more in a white with maybe some sparkle like glitter (for snow) or a frosty blue textured sponging.
ReplyDeleteI love Angel's idea of a white glittery base. I love the peppermint pull too - adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove the peppermint, not in love with the base color...
ReplyDeleteI love the peppermint pull but I wouldn't do the wheels as peppermints (too much of a good thing). I think the base should be snowy white and the wheels red or the base red with black wheels. Super cute Katie!
ReplyDeleteso cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with the base color, but I think it's not quite a good match for the blue ribbon around the neck. I'd change one or the other maybe (read: whichever is easier).
same thing on the candy---super cute, but needs a stronger tie-in, like the suggestion of the peppermint wheels or maybe something else around the neck.
thanks for asking---I wish I could do this with my stuff!
I think the base would look good as a natural brown colored wood.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that the base is way too pastel for the more vibrantly colored deer. I think any shade that was a stronger color would work, and it would be even cuter with a contrasting color on the wheels! If the wheels were red with a white hub, it would really help to tie the peppermint in. For the platform - more of a spring green, kiwi green? Not so bright as kelly green or grass green, but totally NOT a pastel. The blue of the collar would also be nice with the red wheels/white hub.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is to make the base a more vibrant color like the ribbon color, also. I like the peppermint pull. Or you could do a carrot pull, so to make it like the deer is following a carrot. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteHow very adorable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the comments and think the base should closer match the collar in color.
The peppermint is a great touch. Maybe tie in the color scheme with a similiar blue for a additional swirl? Peppermints come in all combination of colors today.
Love your art.
I'll post a pic as soon as I touch up the base. Going with another, more vibrant shade of pale aqua-esque. Thanks for the critique, you guys. It really helped. You know when you look at something too long and can't tell anymore what you think? Yup. Needed fresh eyes.
ReplyDeleteI personally love the base, it's so calm and soothing, just like a child's toy should be! But since you are changing it, I'm sure it'll look great brighter too!
ReplyDeleteI'd try a deep chocolate brown - a little more contrast.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was to paint it the same color as the spots on the deer.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if the deer is yellowish, then blue would be a good choice as it is yellow's compliment. I like the idea of contrasting wheels - maybe in the blue of the ribbon?
I would do red with white wheels or white with red wheels, if it's supposed to be a more christmasy item. HOWEVER, currently, the only thing that makes it christmasy is the peppermint, so for more use and essentially, more face time, I'd keep it as is and probably take off the peppermint after the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteBUT it's adorable. In every way.
Personally, I think the color combination is perfect. It really pays homage to the era that this little toy would have originally come from. I don't think the base is too pastel, as other comments have said. Plus the peppermint is darling. Don't second guess yourself, you make beautiful things!
ReplyDeleteRather than the peppermint, what about a carrot, green leaf or some other food that a child would like to feed to his new pet deer?
ReplyDeleteidont like this color but i like the bit in the end but i am in israel maybe we think diffrent
ReplyDeletemmmm I don't think it looks good. it's too pastel. what about brown (not so dark)?
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely too pastel. I agree.

ReplyDeleteI agree about the base being too pastel. I like the peppermint, but I think making the wheels peppermints or similar would be overkill. It would distract from the deer (fabulous artwork on the deer, by the way).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you don't need any more feedback, but here's mine, anyway! If you're using the peppermint, I'd go all the way Xmas, with a bell on a leather necklace and a snow-colored base. If you don't want it too Xmasy, I'd go grass green or chocolate brown. I love the butt spots! (I'm pretty sure I have never uttered that last sentence before in my life...)
ReplyDeleteI loved one of the commenter's idea about the carrot pull, but I'd put that on a donkey toy!
Sooo cute. I like it like it is, although a bright blue base would be really sharp. And keep the peppermint for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love him!love the peppermint touch,so sweet!xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love it all, but I'm like that.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I really like the peppermint but for the base I would prefer a brighter color. My choice would be dark brown or red.
