More research & development

I had many majors during my stay at UT Austin. For a while I was a chemistry major, and I used to love to walk around Welch Hall where all the labs are because all the doors had these really scary signs posted on them. Danger. Radioactive. Biohazard. Loved it! And, of course, there were emergency showers located at various points in the hallways. I was always bummed that I never got to use one, but one time my husband did! He was working in a biochemistry lab with his friends, and one guy screamed, "AAAHH!" because he'd exploded some chemicals on his face, so Jon and another friend had to push the guy under the shower and emergently wash him. Cool! Isn't that exciting? The guy was fine, don't worry.

And as for my materials testing, don't worry about that either. Not toxic or explosive or radioactive. It's puffy paint!

  1. LOL. I expected something to ignite or blow up the way the story was going! Can't wait to see what you are doing with puffy paint.

  2. It used to be a physics lab for me, so lots of radioactivity and laser related warning signs. It's never quite so exciting when one is required to emergently wash someone in a domestic setting is it? Especially when the number of people that require urgent cleanlification outnumber those doing the washing and it winds up being a daily occurance.

  3. I liked the wind tunnel at the University of Washington. I always thought, big things happen here. Big things. Like plane wing testing!

  4. I am sure if you googled you be able to print out a copy of the genuine original signs LOL.

I think those sort of signs need to be outside my boys rooms!

  5. I once got to use the emergency eye-washing station (part of the shower set-up I think) in my high school chemistry classroom. It's a wonder my chem teacher didn't have a heart attack right then and there! (He sure was acting like he would.)
