The ugliest picture I'll ever post

If I don't start painting my house right now, I will go totally insane. I can't look at these colors ANYMORE!

I keep putting it off because it's going to be a HUGE project. That suntan pantyhose colored oak trim goes on like a bad dream all over the house and around every window and door. And the burnt orange? After 10 years at UT, I never want to see burnt orange again, and it goes up 12 feet to a vaulted ceiling point. The covergirl makeup wall? It rises up, up, up about 12 feet just as the floor drops down the stairs. Stupid split level. This will be the never ending all summer paint project.

All I want for Mothers Day is a 20 foot ladder and a 5 gallon bucket of Kilz.

Oh on a more upbeat note, I'm still looking at your blogs and etsy shops, and I'm having the best time! You guys are hilarious and talented, and I have at various times while reading your stuff snickered out loud, teared up, and thought, "Daaaaang, why didn't I think of that?!"

  2. I like burnt orange...but I haven't been to Utah in a while...and I'm not sure I could take it on my walls. It might make me crazy...er.

Split level...grrr. The thing I don't like about splitlevels - the traffic jams in the entryway.

  3. Loving the suntan pantyhose color - going to paint my entire place with it this weekend! :D

  4. Oou. That is... "interesting". The real question is what colour were you thinking of instead?

  5. Yes, good question, Erin. Something that looks fresh from Decor8blog.com. That's my goal. Thinking white trim, very pale gray walls, pops of bright colors like yellow here and there.

My budget is $3, and I have to accomplish the whole task with a baby clinging to my ankles. No help from the husband on this one.

Amy, when will modpodge come out with a suntan pantyhose color??

  6. My mum has one room in her house called the 'Wimbledon Room' (she is a tennis fanatic...) this room is painted purple, with a pale yellow wood trim. It is freaking hideous!!

Yeah, your orange and covergirl combo isn't great - but it's no purple and yellow!

    love this blog.

  7. Katie, I would send you photos of my curtains but I can't bear to. They would beat your Ugliest Photo entry hollow. They came with the house. They are cowl-like and floral, as in Faded Garage Sale MothEaten LoveSeat Reject floral. I swore from the minute we stepped in the house, that we would change them immediately upon closing. Unfortunately, they are extremely well made and I haven't had the heart to throw them out because of their fine workmanship. Also because I am lazy.

Your floors have class. They do not reek of Faded Garage Sale Acid-Decorated Linoleum. Lucky.

  8. I actually laughed out loud at your commentary. I think I had those pantyhose only it was more like 1988. We sure liked that "suntan" color in high school!

  9. We had a condo in Palm Desert, CA in the 80's. Looks like you are the new residents. That corner could be it's twin! Hey, at least it's cosmetic. My house has "design" issues.

  10. The natural wood is pretty, changing the wall colors and the brass fittings will greatly improve it all. I've just returned from the carpet store, it's getting installed next week to replace a horrible light cream berber that was in the house when I purchased it 12 yrs ago. The previous owners didn't have children or pets, I do, after 12 yrs the cream color isn't lovely anymore! :0)

I also have painting to do. The master bedroom is a blah off white and both bathrooms are wallpapered with giant old Italian looking 'fronds' courtesy of previous owners, it too must go! I HAVE to HAVE color around me to inspire. My dining room is pale lavendar and sage, guest room is turquoise, living area is a deep sand with garnet trim and kitchen is dutch blue and gold. Good luck and speedy painting! Best, Ani
