I wanted a little niche in my kitchen for years, one day I got the electric saw out and cut a few holes in the wall. Dear hubby put a niche in that very weekend. They catch on pretty quick.
It's just like the TV show "while you were out"... "Look, honey! I demolished the kitchen and tomorrow we're going to buy new cabinets!" It works because they have no choice :)
