El Toro Faux Taxidermy Made from Mexican Dress in my etsy shop!

Do you ever envision a project in your mind and then obsess about it constantly...
until you can't stand it anymore so you HAVE to make it. And you're so scared that it won't be as perfect as what's in your mind...
...and you're scared to death to cut the fabric. Like your hands are sweating you're so nervous.
...and then it WORKS! Like perfectly. Like you can't stop staring at it. I love this bull head so much. I've been wanting forever to do a faux taxidermy piece, and I could not for the life of me decide what animal to make. And then I saw an episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations where he visited El Bulli in Barcelona, and there was this black bull head in the restaurant, and then I knew it had to be a bull. And I knew it had to be extra bright and colorful and flowery. I wanted to embroider on it, but I know I can't embroider like I wanted to. So I remembered the old Mexican dresses everybody wore in middle school and high school. Yes! The embroidery on them is so amazing, you can even see very light pencil marks here and there, but the dress itself, if you recall, is pretty much a boring box, so I had no qualms about cutting one up. I'm so homesick for Texas. This piece sums it all up.

Available in the etsy shop now.

  1. that is amazing! I really want to do a faux taxidermy project as well. I'm just not sure where to start. How did you make your frame? If you don't mind my asking... I know you do tutorials sometimes, and I would be ECSTATIC for a tutorial for this project!

  4. Why are you selling it?! If I had just made that, I would not be able to stop looking at it. It looks amazing over your white desk, but if I were you, I'd probably be carrying it around the house with me from room to room. I might even take it grocery shopping with me. It is PERFECT!
