The HGTV Petition

We love you, HGTV, and because we love to make things for our homes, we beg you, please, to create a series about crafty DIY home decor projects, preferably something chic with a whopping dose of humor, and we promise in return to faithfully watch, blog, pin, tweet, and like every episode for ever and ever.

Ok, here it is. To sign the petition, just leave a comment (and feel free to leave a link to your blog if you're a crafty blogger, too). I think this is how the founding fathers envisioned the democratic process would work. A comment on a blog post. But see, then when we get enough comments, I'll send the link to HGTV, and nothing can change the world, or tv programming, like a link to a blog post with lots of comments. Here us roar!

And please pin this and tweet it like crazy! And maybe, just maybe, with the power of the people behind us, we'll be able to watch a great craft show. It's a grassroots couch potato movement.

  1. Much thanks to you for starting this petition - it's long overdue! I am a faithful HGTV viewer and am still stunned that they've not yet tapped into the craft/DIY world! I am happy to join this movement and will be promoting it on my craft blog as well!!

  2. Again, 4 words: The Carol Duvall Show. Something like that. She presented doable great looking crafts that were sometimes downright inspirational. That's what we need now :) Pinned!

  3. Oh, why has this not already happened!? S xx

  4. I remember Decorating with Style with Cindy Piccoli and Kitty Bartholomew. Bring those people back!!!! I will link to your blog from my blog.

  5. It would be great to have craft/DIY programs on HGTV that would show how to create unique and practical decor items and crafts. I think a lot of people would really appreciate seeing ideas that would free them from over-priced, cookie cutter store bought decor.

  6. Yes! No more House Hunters. Especially House Hunters International. Or I'll die.

    ReplyDelete
  7. That's a fabulous idea...I, like you, am sick to death of House Hunters! I'm not buying a new house anytime soon and I just want to learn how to make mine look new and awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  8. YES, PLEASE! There has to be something better than House Hunters. Something we can actually recreate at home.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hear hear! Oh but I don't have cable or HGTV... Just the same, if I did, I'd be watching this show like the Dickens! Sign me up!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Please bring back the good old HGTV!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. YES YES YES! We need DIY/Craft shows back on HGTV. I am not watching any programs now on that channel except Design Star. At least they do their own craft designs to inspire us. Bring back the craft shows.

  18. Girl! You're a genius! I love this and I hope they listen. Maybe a show with a central host who is craft-capable, but not annoying who could go and spend some time with various popular crafters and craft-bloggers (they could start with you!).

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a novel premise for a show-a whole show instead of just being a feature on another show! Love it! There would be no shortage of people to feature either...blogland is filled with witty talented women er people.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, yes, yes! While I like some HouseHunters, since when did HGTV focus primarily on real estate (Selling New York??? Yuck!)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Please please please have more craft and sewing (especially quilting) shows on HGTV

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't watch much HGTV these days because there is so little about DIY. I would love to watch the "how to" portions of some of the existing shows. How about the former "Trading Spaces" decorators strutting their stuff for you and us?

    ReplyDelete
  23. To change the subject for just a sec, I'm a Texas girl moving to MN!!! Dallas to Minneapolis! And I'm nervous as all get about the winter weather! We'll have to compare notes!

  24. Yes! PUUUULLLLEASE! And Katy shall be the host!!! I'd love the option to sit on my fanny and watch crafting rather than flip through blog after blog after blog! Great idea!

  30. Hope I'm not too late! Bravo for your efforts. I hardly watch HGTV anymore because I am a crafter and am not selling my home, gutting my kitchen or bathroom or looking for a vacation place (unfortunately) in the south of France or Ibiza.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Heck yeah! Please inspire me, HGTV! There are a lot of us out there that aren't in the housing market! But almost everyone wants to improve their space in a chic and cost-effective manner.

  32. Hope I'm not way too late - I'd love to watch something like that! With a good website that has step-by-step tutorials to support it, because I can never keep up with the crafting on shows.

  35. HGTV... remember when you basically saved the US economy by putting all the design shows on and people went CRAZY snatching up 2-3 houses at a time just to "flip" them? And then you started showing House Hunters and we were like, "That's cool... because we can, like, see the house and stuff without buying one!!!" And then you started showing them ALL THE TIME. House Virgin, House Hunters, Sell yo' House. Like seriously, it's on now. And people stopped watching the channel as much because the show was a repeat of a repeated repeat and then the economy and real estate failed??? And now Mike Holmes is telling us our house SUCKS? Dude. Your programming is failing the WORLD of milllllllions! Quit your playing and show us the MONEY!

  36. Oh yessirree, I second everyone who is SICK TO DEATH of House Hunters!!! I would love a craft show! Pinning it now!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Brava!

I call House Hunters International my secret vice, but even I'm sick of it. And I want the old days, with Sherri and Matt and Carol Duvall and Penny Pinchers. Please HDTV, more diy!

    ReplyDelete
  38. As someone who has always been a fan of HGTV I am now ready to watch something besides House Hunters all the time. As I am fast closing in on my 30s, my design style has change from more of a Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrel catalog style to wanting something that is unique to me.

As someone who is new the the DIY world, I would love something that step by step takes us through the great projects that I see online.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Since HGTV & DIY have completely changed their programming, I have almost COMPLETELY stopped watching. Oh, Carol Duvall was one of my favorites!! All of those House Hunter shows should be gone, Property Virgins, all of them. Either that or they should change it to the "Real Estate Network" because that's all it is anymore. I miss the old HGTV and DIY network, both!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Agreed. HGTV & DIY used to have this type of programming and I devoured it! I miss that. I hardly even watch anymore...and I've blocked House Hunters!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wholeheartedly agree! I used to watch HGTV literally 8 hours a day while the hubby was at work because I love love LOVE design shows. Now it's House Hunters marathons all.the.time. Ugh. Please, HGTV, feed my creative hunger!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love craft shows and Iused to watch HGTV constantly until youdecided to show house hunter shows. Boring. Please do what you use to do so well. Craft shows, design on a dime shows etc.

  44. I'm with you! Less House Hunters and more DIY, design, and even gardening!!! Puhlease, HGTV get back to your roots. Don't follow the path of MTV where they no longer play Music TV! ;-(

  45. PLEASE HGTV quench my thirst of creative thought.

    ReplyDelete
  46. plz give us this show

    ReplyDelete
  47. Please please please please!!!!! I have been literally DYING for a show to feed my crafty hunger. I DVR every possible craft show I can find, and yet they are all lacking that special something that calls to me. I think the top of this petition says it all, I will faithfully watch and record and rewatch reruns for as long as I live!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thank you for doing what I only say needs to happen but have never done! I am ready to down grade my Directv and do away with HGTV... I seldom even watch it anymore... and I used to LOVE to lay in bed at night and "watch my shows"... :(
    HGTV.. REDEEM YOURSELF!! PLEASSSSSEEE!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would love to see more DIY crafty shoes!! Jean P

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes, PLEASE!!! I turn it off as soon as House Hunters comes on. I would watch ALL day with DIY/crafty programming!

    ReplyDelete
  51. YES YES YES!!! While I do love Real Estate, I am a DIY'er and I need inspiration!!!! Please bring back the old HGTV!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I used to love HGTV when there were actual decorating and diy progrmas on. So sick of HH, I rarely watch any more.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I miss Carol Duvall... Please bring along some shows for the creative people who love to craft. We really need something. HGTV, we love you BUT... we need something new.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My daughter and I have joked for some time - "Oh look, House Hunters is on" because that is all there is. I would love to be inspired again!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Please - HGTV & DIY... bring back some crafty shows. I miss Carol Duvall!! We need something to fuel the craftiness within!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Since alot of us are forced to spend more time in our Homes and Gardens, we'd like to see alot of stuff for the everyman and everygirl to do that doesn't cost a fortune. Not everyone can be a HouseHunter or flip or landscape, but we sure do like to make pretty and practical things.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Please make this happen! I miss the crafty and diy shows oh so much!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Please go back to DIY/Decor...I'm not house hunting internationally and have no interest in people who are.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Carol Duvall was THE person that kicked my crafting into overdrive. I miss her and her show. She made everything look so easy to do. Her guests were fantastic! If it wasn't for her I would have been a couch potato, never been published, and my creative growth would have been permanently stunted.

HGTV, I miss the crafty/DYI shows. Especially the ones geared towards AFFORDABLE projects! Most of us work hard for what little money we have. THAT is why Carol Duvall was so POPULAR!

Bring back more shows in that genre! You ratings will only go UP!

    ReplyDelete
  60. HGTV used to be the absolute BEST back in the day! Lots of wonderful decorating, crafting, and gardening shows. Now the only gardening I see is that Landscaping show every now and then. These days people are staying home and making their homes cozy and inviting- without needing to spend lots of money doing it. Bring back the fun and help us do it!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I used to watch HGTV all the time - back in the days of "Decorating Cents" and "Christopher Lowell" and Debbie Travis' painting show. I learned to see things for what they could be, not what they are; I can make something out of nothing. But the never-ending line-up of House Hunter-type shows have completely turned me away from the network. Please, who cares about the international real estate market when our neighborhoods are littered with "For Sale" signs and house-flipping is a thing of the past! Bring back shows that make me want to raid my cupboards for supplies!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Please- no more house hunters! I love your station, but please bring back diy shows!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with the other posters about The Carol Duvall Show. She made crafting fun and inspiring. I mean House Hunters International over and over again really? I want a good old fashioned DIY show with inexpensive new ways of doing arts and crafts!

    ReplyDelete
  64. would absolutely love to see this on HGTV. Need creative ideas that don't cost alot. Need to have these types of shows on again. Please HGTV, put this show on the air.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Please, Please, Please, Bring back some kind of craft programming to HGTV. We are sick to death of house hunters, and home renovations shows. We need something new that real people can do for themselves to make our existing homes more beautiful. Maybe something on making more storage and organization for the home, or DIY/How To decorating tips. Better Homes & Gardens does a great magazine that I think is called Do It Yourself. That would be a great format for a new TV show! Those are projects that anyone can do! Please consider it!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Please bring back the how to crafty shows. I miss Carol Duvall type shows, Trading Spaces, Design on a Dime etc. I don't own a home so I could care less about remodeling it, I can't afford to buy a house in anywhere NEAR the price range these young kids are buying for way too much money (what do they do for a living anyway)and I will not be traveling to a foreign land to buy a vacation house. How about taping into some real people who are creative on a budget with projects anyone can do and customize to their taste.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Please, a do it yourself show along the lines of the old Carol Duvall show. Also a needle craft show featuring knitting, crocheting, tatting and other lace making, rug making. And a sewing show. For that matter, a show on the basics of gardening, not how to build a skate park in your back yard, but how to pick plants, make cuttings, transplant and re pot. How to make an apartment garden, and how to grow a productive produce garden. How to can and otherwise preserve food. I don't watch much of HGTV anymore because it is not relevant to me or anyone I know. If you have the money to buy the houses or make the improvements they feature on their shows, you don't watch HGTV.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Please bring back the DIY projects for the homes we own. Most of us are not looking for a house to buy.

    ReplyDelete
  69. HGTV is such a bore with the house hunting and the unrealistic expectations of those hunters. I don't want to watch someone buy their first or 15th home. I want to watch shows that have to do with the home and garden, not real estate. I'm fairly tired of watching people remodel their homes with a ridiculous budget that most people DO NOT have. (I do not have $25,000, $10,000 or even $5,000 to redo my kitchen or bath and will not be paying a designer to do it for me). I can obviously save my money and buy what I need for those places but to make or alter something for my needs for my home is what I truly love to learn about. Please bring the DIY back. Not so much DIY while paying your "designer".

    ReplyDelete
  70. Please, please, please!!! We need a craft show on tv! New episodes of Creative Juice would be awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yes PLEASE! I miss the craft shows soooo much! I also DVR all the craft shows and enjoy them very much. It seems all there is now is house renovation shows, that's nice but we need some crafting shows. I would love to see Carol Duvall reruns even, but a new show or two would be so awesome! PLEASE HGTV!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Amen! I (sadly) stopped watching HGTV ages ago, because of the poor quality of their programming, and constant re-runs. I sure do wish they would improve their programming, I would love to be a faithful viewer/HGTV.com commenter again.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Please vary the shows in the evening program hours. I am so sick of House Hunters. Would love DIY-stuff, design issues (interior and exterior). Loved landscapers challenge...bring that back to the evening hours.

    ReplyDelete
  74. PLEASE HGTV....make a change. I don't like it that you have become the Real Estate Channel...I miss the old you. It isn't me...it is you...really.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Please HGTV, we need some quality DIY shows. You used to be my favorite station and now I barely watch you. I'm interesting in building my own furniture, building storage solutions to make my family's life better and more organized, creating things to make my home more beautiful, and learning how to do basic maintenance so I don't have to pay so much money to "experts."

    ReplyDelete
  76. AMEN! I will NEVER go to Malaysia, Thailand, Norway, Eastern Europe to visit let alone buy a house there. What's up with that? Bring back shows like Carol Duval, Simply Quilts, Kitty Bartholomew, Decorating Cents & Design on A Dime (ESPECIALLY in this economy! I DON'T want to see MILLION dollar homes!) And what happened to your holiday DIY specials like Room by Room or Decorating Cents? Not just Christmas either. Many of us like to decorate for all holidays, seasons.

  77. I'm in full support of this idea! Everything has gone the way of reality television. Please give us some REAL television!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Seriously! I'm so sick of house hunters

    ReplyDelete
  79. It would be great to have more craft shows on HGTV

    ReplyDelete
  80. Absolutely in agreement with all the above. Real estate shows are terribly boring, and I never watch HGTV anymore. It once stayed on all day, every day. Please change back to DIY anad crafts! Please!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes!! Please add this to your programming. I am like a fish out of water without some good craft shows! I do not watch your channel anymore. I am tired of the programming that you currently have...........please, give us a break!
    Marianne

    ReplyDelete
  82. YES! so tired of the gigantic homes, expensive decorating and millionaire brokers/owners/houses, etc shows they are broadcasting. Show us the small homes, limited budgets but still fantastic home decor that is out there. DIY is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Do it, or loose your audience to the internet!

    Great tutorials found here

    ReplyDelete
  84. If there was a show like this on HGTV, my husband and kids would have to pry the remote from my fingers, because I would be all over it. Seriously. Like a fat kid in a candy store. And I agree with everyone here - House Hunters is so... damn... boring. What about those of us who OWN our homes and aren't going to sell anytime soon? If ever? Please, give us more shows that show us how to improve the homes we have (especially if those shows tell us how to do it without a huge budget.)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Does anyone remember the show crafters coast to coast? That was a great show! Don't know why they stopped...certainly not because a lack of talent or creativity!! Yes bring on a decent craft show I can dvr!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yes!!! PLEASE!!! I'm sick of House Hunters!
