Faux Crewel with the Kids (So Easy!)

A while back Parents Magazine contacted me and said, "Got any fun craft ideas for kids?" I thought about it for a bit, and then the kids and I whipped these up. Caution: it's totally addictive.

All you do is peel the backing off some adhesive backed craft foam and go to town pressing yarn onto it.
Parents likes their crafts to be little kid friendly, too, all the way down to 3 yr olds, so for the little guys you can snip off strands of yarn and put them in a little pile.
You can use double sided tape to hold the craft foam in place on the table. Cotton yarn seems to stick better than acrylic. When your masterpieces are done, spray them with clear polyurethane and that will make the remaining sticky areas of the foam not sticky anymore. Voila! Instant art! No needles, no glue. Check it out in the June issue of Parents!

  1. You are so creative and smart - it's awesome.

  2. This is a great idea! I'll be picking up some craft foam for our next rainy weekend....

  3. I did this over 40 yrs ago in Japan!!
